transforming paintings from photos

Photos should be used only as a guide or inspiration for a painting. Photos are two dimensional and flat copying them exactly looses the dynamic character of a good painting. The colors from a photo could also be changed to make a painting more in harmony.

All great paintings are conceptually simple. Concepts are plans for solving problems, how to depict light, space,value,and edges.The student paints things, the mature artist paints ideas about things. Composing great art is like composing a great piece of music. The knowledge of the rudimentary elemts have to be there first.
